I would say if you only have a week and need a good crash course, try and get them to understand the basics of exposure, how to use the camera they will be using such as the controls, appropriate settings for the subject such as shooting action, etc…

I fell in love with SLR cameras in 2008 during my first exposure to them, and managed to get my hands on my own Canon 5D which is a dream compared to the point and shoot I'd been using (naturally).
