This weekend was devoted to a project that I have been planning for some time. I won't speak a lot about it at now but it was down at the Bonneville speedway early in the morning. My son Danny, Rob the Vest Guy and Alex Gallivan came down to help out. There assistance was invaluable. Boy was it cold.… Continue

On-Line Photoshop Classes

There are a few spots left for the Photoshop class. Please let me know if you have any questions. I have taught many Photoshop classes. They have all been over a projector in a classroom setting. this works OK but is not ideal. The main reason it is not ideal is that most projectors will not reproduce contrast and colors accurately enough to give meaningful instruction on exact corrections. There are better projectors out there but I have found a better way. I am excited to offer Photoshop Clas… Continue

Inspiration

Last week was the IPPA annual convention. It was great to see some of you there. One of our members, Gary Jensen, cleaned up at the awards banquet and had a merited print at a score of 93. If you have been to one of these competitions, you know that it is hard to get a score of 80 (minimum for a merit print) so 93 is a great accomplishment. And, the picture he… Continue

Halloween is over

Since I have missed a few blog posts this year I have decided to post two in the same week. For some of you, you probably do this many before lunch everyday but for me, it's still something I am trying to fit into my schedule. Last week I posted about a spook alley that my family puts on every year. It was originally set-up to help the kids in the transition from trick or treating to no trick or treating but over the years has just become a tradition. We are always looking for help so, if your… Continue

Halloween Coming quick - Free Spook Alley

Hi Everyone, Just a quick reminder for everyone to get your images in for the Halloween competition. Also, my family does a haunted house/spook alley thing every year. It is FREE. It is Halloween night from 7-9PM and recommended that children be at least 6 years old. Last year we added a guillotine and this year we have added even more though I can't tell you what they are as it would ruin the surprise. Stop… Continue

The fall is coming to an end

It's not too late to get out there and capture some of the fall colors. They are getting a little harder to find and in some areas they are more 'rustic' then vibrant but one look around here and you will see that the shots are still available. Saturday morning I awoke early and headed up to get some pictures up by Mueller Park in Bountiful. The colors there are less vibrant but plentiful. The weather was great and the light was diffused. I shot for about an hour when, during one of my shots, m… Continue

The Golden Hour

Looks like I missed another week on posting to my blog. For those of you that remember, I challenged myself to post once a week for a year starting the first week of January. Last week was the second week that I have missed this year. I'm almost done with the year so, I think I can keep it at that. Been really busy the last couple weeks. my classes at Woods Cross have 2 weeks left. After that is over, I have been preparing to do online Photoshop, Lightroom, and Photoshop Elements classes. So re… Continue

Workshop/Field Trip report

For those that were unable to make it, we missed you and hope you will be able to make it next time around. It's not too late though. The leaves are approaching and at their peak, depending on location. Get out and shoot. Also, with the weather patterns, there will be some great clouds, so get out early or late. Workshop: The workshop turned out great. It was held at Companion Systems on Friday night(9-25-09) .… Continue

Workshop This WEEK - Lightning (or not)

A little early on my post this week. For all, remember, the workshop field trip is this week. The workshop will be at Companion Systems in North Salt Lake at 6:30 on Friday(9-25-09) night and the Field Trip will be the following morning. I believe we will be meeting and driving up by Snow Basin ski resort between The Morgan and Ogden Valley. If you are only coming to the field trip, be sure to check back on the exact time and location for the Field Trip.… Continue

Getting Ready - Sunsets

Update--- I corrected the days. The Portraiture is actually on Thursdays and the Landscape is on Tuesdays. A little late in posting this week. Been pretty busy getting ready for the fall classes at Woods Cross. I'm teaching two classes this quarter. On Tuesdays it's Landscape Photography and Thursdays is portraiture including families. So, I hope to stay on it for the blog posts and keeping up with the site for the… Continue

Utah State Fair - Antelope Island Balloon festival

I hope all of you made the time to enter images into the State Fair. We are displaying a poster at the fair promoting the club. Summer Derrick did an awesome job with creating/updating our original poster. Make sure you stop in and say hi to Curtis when you are at the fair. I wish everyone that submitted work, good luck! Here is a web si… Continue

Yellowstone

Had a great time down in Yellowstone. Big thanks to Rob for organizing this. It was a big undertaking. It was great getting to better know those that went. Although the bears(except the ones hanging around Rob's hotel) had deserted for higher grounds we still saw some Big horn sheep, Coyotes, Jack Rabbits, Bison, Wolfs (though way too far to even think about a picture), Elk, Bald eagle, and other various birds and varmints. All in all it was a great trip. Looking forward to going in maybe June… Continue

Shooting babies - Looking forward to Yellowstone

Wrapping up a shoot and getting ready for Yellowstone. If anyone needs to get a hold of me I will be gone from Wednesday afternoon through Sunday afternoon. In case of any serious site issues, Summer may be able to help though I haven't asked her yet. Here's one from last night-

Photoshop Challenge -UPDATED-

Blog post a little early this time. I thought it would be fun to have a Photoshop Challenge. If there is enough interest, maybe we will designate an area or schedule to do this a little more often. I think it would be fun to post an unedited image and see how the different photographers would enhance and/or edit the image in photoshop(or other program). I don't want this to turn into a discussion about whether Photoshop is good or bad just want to see how you would edit it if you took it.… Continue

Derby

I haven't posted many images in my last few blogs so Here are a few from the demolition derby at the Davis County Fair last night. The lighting was really poor so my ISO was very high. Still OK but I wish they would have started about an hour earlier. On the good side Curtis was able to get us up on the announcer booth. Good view from up there.

Fair Time

The photo check in for the Davis Fair was Saturday and photo judging was yesterday. A big thanks to all who helped with the endeavor. And thank you in advance for those that have signed up for helping throughout the fair. I will be sending out reminders so keep an eye on your email and let me know if you have any questions. It was great to see some great images from some of our club members. I know that many of you placed well. Congratulations! I thought I would share some of my thoughts on wha… Continue

Cell Phone pics

This weekend my family and I went down to Bryce Canyon. We stayed in an RV park(Ruby's Inn) just outside of the park entrance. Saturday the sunrise was uneventful but Sunday was pretty good. It's also just less than two weeks away from my daughters wedding. For those that have been following, my son got married two weeks ago. So my wallets already a little lite. Anyways, I had Crystal bring her dress and stuff and we went and did some Bridals in Bryce Canyon. Here is one of the pics taken overlo… Continue

Short break

Hi All, This last week was a nice break. My Son's wedding was over so I intentionally left my schedule open for some R&R. Friday, July 24th, I went to my Dad's house up in Ogden. He lives in a high rise building and has access to the roof area. We shot the Fireworks from the ballpark and also the fireworks from the Rodeo. Although his place is around 24th and Monroe it has a pretty good view of all the fireworks. I used my 70-200 and was able to get a full frame of the fireworks with about… Continue

Weddings

Saturday was my Son Jason's wedding. Rusty and April Sesssions came out and shot it for us. They did a great job and it was good to visit with them. I only took about 4 pictures. I really tried to not shoot and be in the moment. That can be hard if your shooting it. I even resorted to shooting my sister's camera. It's not often you'll see me with black and yellow.
