I had a buddy who had a similar one. It worked pretty well. The only problem was reading raw files. A lot of them, this one included, read raw files but need to be updated frequently as you buy newer camera models. Sometimes there is a lag from when you can get the camera and the update the device to read the new raws.
I've almost bought one a couple times. Ended up getting a laptop instead. If I hiked a ways and new that I wouldn't have power to recharge, I would probably buy something like this instead. For this much money(even less) you can buy a netbook which is not as big as a full size laptop but a lot more powerful and flexible then this viewer. You can get a very small 160GB netbook at Costco for ~$350.
I remember hearing once about a way to dump memory cards to an IPOD but I'm not sure where you would get the cable or how to modify the software.
