Last week was the
IPPA annual convention. It was great to see some of you there. One of our members,
Gary Jensen, cleaned up at the awards banquet and had a merited print at a score of 93. If you have been to one of these competitions, you know that it is hard to get a score of 80 (minimum for a merit print) so 93 is a great accomplishment. And, the picture he scored this with was taken on a club field trip up to SnowBasin in 2008.
The trade show was good and it's neat to see some of the new products out there. They are printing on everything nowadays. I also got a great deal on some albums and a couple light stands.
On Tuesday Morning, I got there for the 7a.m. workshop and had to park a distance away. They were offering the swine flu vaccine and there were some very long lines. Not to make light of a serious situation but it seemed odd that all these people were sitting out in the cold snow and rain, some of them from the previous night, to get a vaccine so they didn't get sick. Most all of them had children in this weather. I only had my cell phone so I grabbed a quick pic through the window-

During this Tuesday morning session was a presenter that I had seen before. His name is
Matt Barr from Morgan County. He has a very unique, awesome, style and I like his attitude of if he likes it, who cares what others think (not an exact quote). Anyways, the last time I saw him he issued us all the 2 minute challenge. The challenge consists of arriving at your location with your subject(s) and shooting for two minutes. You then have two minutes to find another location and then you shoot for two more minutes. So, 2 minutes scouting location, 2 minutes shooting, over and over. I did this a couple years ago and learned a ton. But I do need to go out and do this again. It really helps you to see what possibilities are all around you. And, there are many times when you are forced to shoot in less than ideal situations and it is an awesome experience. If you decide to try it, post your results here or elsewhere. I would love to see your results. And, if you watch my posts, you may see me try it again soon.
I always leave the convention and quarterly's inspired with new ideas and motivation to improve and not get stuck in a rut. I hope that you find whatever it is that inspires you and that you participate in all the learning opportunities that are out there. You are either progressing or regressing. There is no standing still.
