Photographix

For Photographers of All Skill levels since 2005

For those that were unable to make it, we missed you and hope you will be able to make it next time around. It's not too late though. The leaves are approaching and at their peak, depending on location. Get out and shoot. Also, with the weather patterns, there will be some great clouds, so get out early or late.

Workshop:
The workshop turned out great. It was held at Companion Systems on Friday night(9-25-09) . Marie was nice enough to host us there and I appreciate it. It was a good size group of about 30 people and she was able to accommodate all of us. Corrie went over basic composition, lens choice, how to use a polarizer, depth of field and the ever ominous hyper-focal distance. He even handed out hyperfocal charts for those that were in attendance. You did great Corrie and we appreciate all of your preparation and the insightful manner in which you delivered your presentation.

Field Trip:
The field trip turned out great. We met at the East Fork Overlook by Snowbasin between 7:00 and 8:00 am.. Corrie had went up the previous weekend scouting locations and I think he chose a great one. I don't know the count but I think it was somewhere around 35 people that made it to the field trip. On the way up we saw some wild turkeys (not just the field trip participants). Went back and tried to get a few shots but they were pretty skittish. Joe went down the hill trying to get the shot. The rest of us gave up and went to join Corrie and the group. Corrie had scouted a few locations and after shooting by the overlook for 1/2 hour or so a few of us headed down by parking lot 3(I think) and went on some of the trails. Corrie and some others stayed at the overlook. This was a little lower in the canyon so we sort of got a second sunrise if you know what I mean. A couple people headed further down the trail than some and Rob ended up finding a Bull Moose. We heard there was a Cow Moose there but never saw her.
Most of us stayed until about 10:30-11:00 and headed home.

All in all a great weekend with the two events. It was great visiting with all of you and getting to know you better. It felt more like a family outing seeing old (not in the chronological sense) faces and everyone with a common purpose and willingness to help each other.
I hope our next event goes as well and that you were all able to get some great shots!

I made an album with pictures that you have uploaded. It is here.
If I have linked to something by mistake or missed something, please let me know.

Please, feel free to post your comments and experience about the workshop and/or field trip here. It would be great to hear your story.

-Doug

Doug, I appreciate your recap of the events of Friday and Saturday, and for all of the time you take maintaining this great sharing site for all of us to crossfeed and learn. Cudos to you and your family for all you do!!!

Joe, thanks for your comments and participation, I too thought the location offered some great opportunities for expanding one's fall color and landscape repetoire. It was enjoyable for me to share and to spend some time one on one with some of the club to aid their exploration of photography. Keep shooting!!

The workshop was great! Corrie did a fantastic job on presenting the use of composition, light, shot setup, polarization and application of the functions of an SLR. I always walk away from these workshops with more knowledge than I came in with and this one was no different. Now just to remember it all, use it all and store it for future use.
The field trip was a great time. I always love to see so many people together with the same interest shooting the same area and getting so many different shots. Oh, and yes speaking of Turkeys when I came back up the hill to the road there wasn't a car in sight except for the cluster of cars at the overlook a 1/4 mile away. Just kidding I wouldn't have waited for me either I could have been down there for some time if all worked out like it was suppose to. Everyone came back with some great shots the location gave plenty of opportunity.
I cant wait for the next adventure and I hope to see all of the people I have come to know as well as meet new ones.

thanks, Joe
